Drøn

About Drøn

Drøn are a German electro/IDM trio consisting of Christoph Abert, Frederik Dahlke, and Ingo Zobel. Heavily influenced by artists such as Atom Heart and Pete Namlook, their spacious tracks feature clicking, mutating beats and occasionally incomprehensible song titles, but there's an up-front (if detached) melodicism to their sound that separates them from the hordes of alienating Autechre clones out there. The group formed in 1997 and released its debut album, Parsec, on German electronic label Elektrolux in 2000, followed a year later by Xenologix. Mikrolux (a sublabel of Elektrolux) released Drøn's Eve Shores EP as well as the group's third album, Homeworld, both in 2002. The group temporarily changed its name to Signalform in 2006, releasing Private Channel on Shima Records, followed by Understanding Media (a collaboration with Tachikoma) on Lovethechaos in 2007. The trio resumed the Drøn moniker in 2013, self-releasing a limited ambient CD-R titled Hd 188753. Later that year, Drøn contributed a track to Die Welt Ist Klang, an online tribute compilation to the late Pete Namlook, which was released as an eight-disc box set by Carpe Sonum Records the following year. The label also released Drøn's fourth proper album, Comm, in 2015. ~ Paul Simpson
