About Hybrasil

Irish-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Hybrasil plays a bouncy, housey style of techno. His 2019 debut album Embers was issued on Rekids, where he worked as a studio engineer. Born Will Kinsella in Dublin, he grew up in the '90s listening to pirate radio and became a crate-digger and vinyl addict with an interest in DJ'ing and production. After school he entered the world of work, but realizing he wanted to pursue his passion, he quit his job as a consultant to study sound and music technology full-time. After graduating, he made a living as a studio engineer, while promoting a club night and continuing to work on his own tracks. He took his stage name from a mythical, magical, unreachable island believed in antiquity to be located off the west coast of Ireland. Kinsella made his recording debut in 2016 on Loose with the "ADE 2015 Special" EP, followed with a string of further singles on labels such as Bush, Intacto, Kenja, Off, and his own eponymous imprint. He also gained a reputation for his fine live sets, playing out alongside the likes of Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Sven Väth, and Carl Cox. After moving to Berlin in 2018, he got to know Radio Slave and began working for him as a studio technician at his Rekids label. That label released Hybrasil's 2019 "Afra" EP and, later that year, his debut full-length album Embers, a collection of fast-paced, bouncy, functional but melodic techno tracks with a pronounced influence of early Detroit minimal. ~ John D.
