About Métal Urbain

One of the first bands to incorporate electronics in a punk rock context, Metal Urbain used heavily distorted guitars, aggressive vocals, a synthesizer, and a drum machine to create some of the most bracing, original music of their time. Formed in Paris in 1977, their unique approach called into question many of the accepted notions of rock & roll. Their elimination of a conventional rhythm section (acoustic drums and bass) helped to illuminate the possibilities for experimentation within the rock aesthetic, and paved the way for creative exploration throughout the post-punk era. Their legacy is best experienced on the 2004 collection Anarchy in Paris!
