About The Wolves
The Wolves, hailing from Wolverhampton, were a promising band signed to Pye Records in mid-1964. Fronted by lead singer Bob Holt (no relation to the American singer of that name), they had a fairly brooding sound, mostly thanks to his quasi-operatic delivery, a powerful and dramatic rock tenor that recalled Roy Orbison. He also whistled to good effect, and both of his major talents were put to good use on their debut single, "Journey Into Dreams." Unfortunately, that A-side, which might've generated some business in the early years of the 1960s, was a little too un-British sounding, in the terms of 1964 -- no heavy rhythm guitars or driving beat -- to make much headway, at home or abroad. The group disappeared into history around the middle of the decade, and were next heard from in 2004 on Castle Records' Beat, Beat, Beat, Vol. 4. ~ Bruce Eder
