Venetian Snares

About Venetian Snares

Working as Venetian Snares, Canadian producer Aaron Funk helped define the electronic subgenre breakcore, and became one of its most prolific, well-recognized figures. Much of his work consists of intense mutations of jungle and hardcore techno, with obtuse time signatures playing at impossibly fast tempos, and deftly edited samples from a wide array of sources. A biting, absurdist sense of humor informed releases such as 2002's Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006, though he could also tap into a bleakness on albums like his modern classical-influenced 2005 high-water mark Rossz Csillag Alatt Született. After issuing several acid techno-influenced records as Last Step, he began using more analog and modular synths for Venetian Snares releases such as 2016's Traditional Synthesizer Music, as well as his collaborations with Daniel Lanois and John Frusciante.
