I’ve been using this app for a few years now.

I started off not being able to speak a word of Japanese but now I can confidently say I can live and work in Japan without any language problems. I even have the JLPT N1 Certification of Proficiency now and it’s all thanks to this app.

Having said that, I want to make it clear that just using this app isn’t going to magically make someone better at any given language. HelloTalk is a great tool for learning languages; nothing more and nothing less.

Privacy Violations and Unresponsive Support

I am deeply disappointed with HelloTalk's handling of privacy and its customer service. After a year of inactivity on the app, I logged in to find some features restricted due to a complaint about my identity. I reached out to HelloTalk's online support, expressing my concerns about their identity verification process and privacy implications. However, the customer service representative rudely insisted on a video recording of personal information, including age and gender, disregarding my valid privacy concerns. It is unacceptable for HelloTalk, which headquarter located in Shenzhen China, to demand such sensitive information without addressing user queries. This lack of respect for privacy and unprofessional customer service is a serious issue that needs immediate attention.

We understand how you feel, and we are going to take care of this for you right now. Please provide us with your HelloTalk ID or email to support@hellotalk.com so that we could proceed to research the issue your account has encountered. If the mistake is on our end, we would lift the restriction for you ASAP and get you back to practicing your favorite language.

A bit expensive.

You can use it for free. But not too much functionality can be used. If you buy VIP, you still have to pay the extra money for another learning material.
