Navigation application for the Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Using Bluetooth low energy and iBeacon technology to navigate the museum and get information about exhibits automatically...
Today museums offer information about exhibits using printed catalogs, short information texts on walls and, sometimes audio guides - special devices that supply additional information as spoken text in a more or less automated way. In some cases museums offer "virtual museum" applications for mobile devices that enable exhibit browsing and virtual visits to the museum.
With our Smart Museum concept, museums can offer its visitors a new way of museum guidance. When in proximity of an exhibit the application automatically displays additional information and can start playing related audio/video clips on the visitor's mobile device without the need for a specialized hardware.
This is made possible using the new Bluetooth 4.0 standard (also referred to as Bluetooth Low Energy or Bluetooth Smart) and iBeacon technology. It enables mobile device applications to be microlocation aware, i.e. to react differently in proximity of different iBeacons (exhibits).
Additionally, based on configuration on cloud, it is available offline access to gallery layout and all configured exhibits. Maps guide visitor to smart museum location, and Augmented reality directs visitor through camera view.
