EDITORS’ NOTES

Freed from a major-label deal that saw him hyped as grime’s next big thing but ultimately produced no music, Dwayne Mahorn pitched his first full-length as a “pre-album” to 2010’s Born Blessed. It deserves bigger billing than simple appetiser though. The energised gumbo of whip-crack beats, sub bass and ear-worm hooks nods to hip-hop (“Name Out Your Mouth”), R&B (“House Wife”) and rock (“Grime Killers”). The music is often secondary to Mahorn though: versatile, provocative and witty, he still sounds like one the UK’s most exciting MCs.

About Durrty Goodz

Durrty Goodz (born Dwayne Mahorn) is a U.K. artist with a flow that fuses many styles, from dancehall to reggae to hip-hop and bashment, evoking artists as disparate as Ludacris and Kardinal Offishall. He was barely 15 years old when Kool FM (a popular pirate station in London) crowned him Best MC, leading to considerable buzz on the U.K. underground circuit. His recording debut was a nine-track EP, Axiom, released in 2007. ~ Vincent Thomas
