Album Review

After years of having two excellent but short Michael Smith albums (8 songs each on LP, combined on one Flying Fish CD), containing his signature songs the "Dutchman" and "Spoon River," it's great to have a new collection to live with. This is a solo album, and so we get to hear Smith's impassions singing and authoritative rythmic guitar playing. The songs are, like all Smith's work, detailed pieces of poetry. "Lady Susquahanna" and "Time Is Moving in the Hallways" are two of the 15 strong tracks.

Michael Smith lives in Chicago and is well known for writing "The Dutchman," popularized by Steve Goodman. His work has also included the score for the Steppenwolf Theater Company's Broadway production of The Grapes of Wrath.
