About Electric Music AKA

London, England-based outfit formed by music journalist Tom Doyle and former On U Sound engineer Anth Brown. Originally known as Electric Music, the Scottish-born duo was forced to add AKA to their name following the threat of legal action from former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos. They made their debut in 2000 with the grandly titled North London Spiritualist Church. The album juxtaposed retro electronica, indie guitar rock and Doyle’s wistful vocals to notable effect, echoing the modus operandi employed by fellow UK oddballs the Beta Band. Following the surprise termination of the ZubiZaretta/Grand Royal alliance, the duo released their second album via Sanctuary Records. The memorable cover shot of The Resurrection Show placed Doyle and Brown in the Great Hall of London’s Alexandra Palace. The music within just failed to match the organic warmth generated by the duo’s debut, however, with ‘Something Up With The Stars’ and ‘Some Bright Shining Future’ the stand-out tracks.
