One of music’s greatest rhythm sections, reggae or otherwise, Sly & Robbie were a powerhouse team throughout the ‘80s, as this compilation of their early digital productions attests. Sirens whoosh against the sublime roots vocals of Black Uhuru on “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner”, while the violence detailed by Sugar Minott on “Devil Pickney” is offset by vibraslaps and blooping video-game sounds. The canned handclaps of “Revolution” mirror Dennis Brown’s devastating moaning, and The Tamlins’ take on “Baltimore” is at once heartbreaking and triumphant.
