Album Review

The Dylan Group's first album after becoming a true band marks their midway point between an early focus on live music and the growing programmability of their peers in the post-rock community. The band makes a powerful statement by leading off with "Stay (And We'll Make Such Sweet Music)," an Astrud Gilberto chestnut that benefits from the interplay of vibes and drums. "Spaghetti" includes an acoustic version of what would be jungle breakbeats, "The Pipes" is a tape experiment involving a series of clattering noises and More Adventures in Lying Down even includes a live track recorded at the Knitting Factory. It's an interesting fusion of live and pre-programmed music.

Ambient duo the Dylan Group teamed Dylan Cristy (a noted jungle DJ as well as co-founder of the New York-based Bubble Core label) and Adam Pierce (also known for his work as the anagrammatic Mice Parade).
