The Heat

The Heat

Jesse Malin delivers more alt-rock dramatics on his second album. The songs have a mixed bag of emotions: heartbreak and hope, love and fear. “Silver Manhattan” has a grunge-inspired guitar dragging underneath Malin’s moans, while “Hotel Columbia” is a more uptempo pop-rock jam, guitars and piano weaving together throughout a speedy romp. The album ends with Malin crooning about regret and loss on the organ-propelled ballad “God’s Lonely People”, bringing the album home in poignant fashion.
