Recorded shortly after the death of Ornette Coleman, who provided its title track, Perfection erupts steadily with vigour and renewal. Tenor saxophonist David Murray is all energy and passion in "Mirror of Youth", while pianist Geri Allen and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington revel together rhythmically in this unusual bassless outfit. The all-stars also raise the gospel roof in "Barbara Allen", pay warm tribute to Wayne Shorter in "Samsara (For Wayne)" and go out on an extended abstract limb in "The David, Geri, and Terri Show".
