Album Review

Unlike most live albums, Op Voorraad isn't merely for the converted, it is for everyone who liked Acda en De Munnik when they were still young and fun. The content comes from their first two (and, arguably, best) records, but this time around with a fleshed out band sound. There are also a couple of new cuts. Opener "Naar Huis" is followed by a splendid rendition of "Drie Keer Vallen," that manages to evoke a tension that the original doesn't. On "Niet of Nooit Geweest," the band shows their knack for a pop single, repeating the trick with closer "Als Het Vuur Gedoofd Is." For the fans, this is a great overview of Acda en De Munnik's most fertile period, and a snapshot of what was a great band (Kasper van Kooten is still on drums, Diederik van Vleuten plays keyboards, and, as always, David Middelhoff is there on bass). If you're new to the band, this, too, will be a great introduction. A limited edition of this album was released with another live album, in a small setting, with nine songs, some of which are not available elsewhere, such as "Lena," with a mouth harp solo by Toots Thielemans. ~ Philip D. March 6, 1967) and Paul de Munnik (b. September 30, 1970) met in 1989, while studying at De Kleinkunstacademie, an art school in Amsterdam, where they...
