Editors’ Choice

We couldn’t wait to go back to the land of twisty towers and uncanny beauty—and this sequel didn’t let us down. With its striking colours and level design, it’s even more stunning than the first game. New elements like light beams and controlling two characters make the puzzles even trickier. The bond between that mother and child is what we’ll remember most, though—their relationship moved us in a way few games do.

Beautiful but too easy

The design is beautiful, the characters are nice and simple, the story is well made as well and the soundtrack is mind blowing. My only problem was the game’s difficulty. The first Monument Valley game had more complex puzzles, and this one’s puzzles need just a few seconds to solve. But I can’t complain much about it, because I received this game for free.

First one was better

I am quit angry at how this game is overrated by certain articles on the web. One actually goes as far as saying that in change of the double of the price of the first game you get the double of the adventure and experience of the first game.

I actually got the fraction of the experience.

Nice graphics, two characters and a lovely story, and a simplified game that is perceptually longer. If you look at it, you see it is categorized officially as an adventure game.

The first game was much more complex, there were less chapters, but each one was longer, because there were more scenes in a single chapter and you had to think a lot, a lot harder. You could see more penrose triangles. And by official categorization, it is a puzzle game, and it indeed makes you puzzled sometimes.

Also, the first game was as well beautiful, and this sequel is only marginally better in terms of design.

And if that was not enough, I think I am not alone with the opinion that the first game had a better story as well. There was much more work put into every bit of the first game, just like into the narrative.
You also get a free extra level called Ida’s Dream and you are able to buy an extension called “Forgotten Shores”, each of these extra chapters are as puzzling as the base game.
