About Barb Jungr

The cabaret artist Barb Jungr was born in 1954 in England to parents of Czech and German descent. During the '70s, she became associated with the "alternative cabaret" scene then active in London, which stressed a theatrical presentation as well as an eclectic approach to songwriting and choice of material. After touring the U.K. and the Continent for much of the '80s and '90s, she began in 2000 to record a series of interpretive albums for the audiophile Linn label, including highly original tributes to Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley as well as CHANSON: THE SPACE IN BETWEEN, a reinterpretation of 20th century French songs with newly translated lyrics. Jungr remains one of prime exponents of Adult Alternative, seeking to expand the traditional repetoire of popular song and cabaret. In 2008, she released JUST LIKE A WOMAN (HYMN TO NINA), a tribute to Nina Simone.
