About Berner

In a thick haze of weed smoke, Berner spits rhymes about blissed-out, pot-heavy days in serene California. Born Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr. in San Francisco in 1983, the rapper has parlayed a lifelong interest in cannabis into a sound that lands somewhere between Cypress Hill’s stoner anthems and the relaxed cool of Wiz Khalifa, the latter of whom signed Berner to his label, Taylor Gang Entertainment. Despite his high-profile connections, Berner has always maintained an ethos true to the streets and his passion for blazing up with the top down. Berner is as prolific as they come, whether collaborating with other MCs like Cam’ron, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Curren$y, or stepping into the spotlight on his own on albums such as 2018’s The Big Pescado and 2019’s La Plaza. Whether solo or recording with others, Berner likes to stick to the themes he knows well—mainly marijuana and his Mexican-Italian roots. Berner’s albums often reference his unique heritage, and he proudly reps his origin story on LPs like 2020’s Russ Bufalino: The Quiet Don. He is one of the steadiest MCs in the game (along with being the co-founder and CEO of the Cookies cannabis company), reliable and predictable in substance and more than happy to spark one up and spit some laidback bars.
