About Chasing Furies

The Christian rock group Chasing Furies is a family affair. The band is made up of two sisters, vocalist and songwriter Sarah Meeker and vocalist Rachel, and their older brother, Joshua, who writes, sings, and plays guitar. Their father was a music minister, so all three siblings performed together long before they thought of a serious musical career. A little gig in a local coffeehouse in 1996 was the group's first appearance outside of family or church. Things went well enough that the threesome felt secure in spreading their wings and giving the music world a try. In 1997, Chasing Furies performed in Colorado at the Christian Artists Seminar. The band's bold, hard rock look stood out and drew attention as much as their great music did. With wild hair colors and body piercings to spare, Chasing Furies looked more like they were ready to do a Black Sabbath number instead of gospel tunes, but Christian rock with strong lyrics about God and faith is what the band delivered. In fact, the group delivered so well that they left the seminar with a second place award in the band competition. Both Sarah and Joshua Meeker have lived through their share of hard teen years. They had battles with drugs, alcohol, and rebellion, saving younger sister Rachel from some of the same mistakes. Through their music, they hope to save other teens as well. In 1999, Chasing Furies saw the release of their debut album, With Abandon, under the Sparrow Records label. "Wait Forever," "Fair Night's Longing," and "Throw Me" are some of the uplifting tracks filled with passionate vocals and distorted guitar riffs that have won the group stellar reviews from critics. ~ Charlotte Dillon
