About Graham Repulski
Graham Repulski is a prolific lo-fi songwriter based in Philadelphia but originally from Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Everything about his short, trebly tunes recalls mid-'90s Guided by Voices, from the surrealist lyrics/titles and collage-like artwork to his penchant for burying incredibly catchy melodies in thick layers of tape hiss, and of course his prodigious output. However, his music goes beyond mere worship, often tipping further into the avant-garde with daring tape experiments. Repulski had been in various indie rock projects during the 2000s, with his band Von Hayes releasing full-length Evident Eyelid and EP Quartered Lots for the Umbrella Soldier on State Capital Records in 2008. After the band fizzled, he began issuing solo CDs and cassettes, primarily on his aptly named Shorter Recordings, starting with 2010's Man Pop. Many of his releases were mastered by GbV associate Todd Tobias. Full-lengths Electric Worrier and Into an Animal Together followed in 2011, and Big School Records released his EP My Color Is Red (2011) and LP Cop Art (2013). 2014's Portable Grindhouse was issued by Hope for the Tape Deck, and Rok Lok Records handled the cassette release of Success Racist in 2015 (issued on CD by Shorter Recordings). In 2016, Repulski released the triple-cassette box Re-Arranged at Hotel Strange/Contaminated Man/Boy Lung. ~ Paul Simpson
