About Harvie S

After gaining a degree in piano and composition from the Berklee College of Music, Harvie Swartz began playing bass, working in and around Boston before moving to New York. From the '70s on, he's played with many well-known jazz musicians, including Mose Allison, Al Cohn, and Zoot Sims. He also enjoyed a long and fruitful musical partnership with Steve Kuhn. Swartz attracted attention for his accompaniment of singers, most notably Sheila Jordan, with whom he recorded a dozen albums. Also a skilful composer; by the late 2010s, he recorded numerous individual pieces, including the themes for the documentaries Trumpet Kings, Piano Legends, and John Coltrane. Since 2001, Swartz has performed and recorded as Harvie S, and with his band Eye Contact. ~ Rovi Staff
