About KeitO

Keito combines Nikki Colk's feathery vocals, the double guitar (Colk and Dave Lake) wall of noise of Goo- and Dirty-era Sonic Youth, wigged-out electronic beeps, and loopy video game effects. Keito formed in Norwich, U.K., in 1996 with Nikki Colk on guitar and vocals, Dave Lake on guitar, Gemma Cullingford on bass and Diata Quantrill playing drums. The band began to gain a following with a string of 7" singles released on the label Vibrations From the Edge of Sanity including Sandpaper Shuffle in 1998, Catnap, Who'eeowee, and 60 Second Popstar in 1999, a split single with Cato in 2000, and Thwipside in 2001. The singles received national Radio One airplay from Steve Lamacq and John Peel and Keito was listed as one of the Class of '99 in Record Collector Magazine. Their full-length debut, You've Seen Us...You Must Have Seen Us..., consisting of new material as well as re-recordings of previous singles, was produced by Owen Turner of the legendary Magoo and released in 2001. ~ Charles Spano
