About Kid Sensation
b. Steven Spence, Seattle, Washington, USA. Rapper who first came to fame as Sir Mix-A-Lot’s DJ and keyboard player, before scoring a minor success with his own debut album. After graduating in 1988, he became part of the Sir Mix-A-Lot posse behind 1988’s platinum-selling Swass set. It encouraged him to embark on his own career, which was soon rewarded when his debut album provided three hit singles, ‘Back To Boom’, ‘Seatown Ballers’ and ‘Prisoner Of Ignorance’. His self-aggrandising title was reflected in the cool braggadocio of much of the material on offer, but by the advent of a follow-up album there was a message behind the rhymes. ‘I’m trying to show I’m a down to earth guy, it’s more of what I’m all about’. The b-side of the album’s promotional single, ‘Ride The Rhythm’, was ‘The Way I Swing’. This was a duet with the Seattle Mariner’s all-star centerfielder, and Sensation’s sporting idol, Ken Friggy Jnr.
