About Laumė

New Zealand's Kim Pflaum, aka Laumė, makes evocative, '80s-influenced electronic pop that combines lyrical hooks with arty atmosphere. Following her initial 2016 EP Bad Humors (issued under the name Madeira), she released her 2020 debut full-length, Waterbirth. Hailing from Christchurch, Pflaum became interested in the arts at a young age and was pursuing both music and graphic design when she co-founded the indie rock outfit Yumi Zouma in 2013. However, she left the group after a year to pursue a solo career. She relocated to Auckland, where she began exploring a more personal, cathartic sound that was also sleeker, utilizing synths and electronic production. She adopted the stage name Madeira, and in 2016 released the EP Bad Humors. At the same time, she sought out collaborative work, appearing on tracks with electronic acts like Zimmer, Boycrush, and Swimgood. In 2020, she brought all of this experience to bear on her full-length debut, Waterbirth. ~ Matt Collar
