About Sō Percussion

Brooklyn-based quartet So Percussion redefine the meaning of the term percussion ensemble. In addition to traditional percussion instruments, So Percussion make their own; they play everything from tea cups and walnut planks to flower pots and amplified cactus. The group were recording their own compositions by third album, 2006's Amid the Noise, then went on to collaborate with the electronic band Matmos on 2010's Treasure State and with trumpeter Dave Douglas on 2011's Bad Mango. Their musical partnerships that decade included working with composer Steve Reich on 2011's WTC 9/11 and 2017's Drumming Live. The group's eclectic pairing commenced the next decade with works by Caroline Shaw (Narrow Sea and Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part) and Buke & Gase (A Record Of ...) in 2021, and Rectangles and Circumstance, a ten song collaboration with Shaw in 2024. ~ Thom Jurek
