Tim Exile

About Tim Exile

English producer Tim Exile (born Tim Shaw in 1978) initially got into electronic music through DJing, but after discovering synthesizers and tape machines and picking up a sampler, he began producing challenging drum'n'bass for Beta Recordings and Moving Shadow, among other labels. From 2000 through 2004, he released roughly a dozen 12" singles, EPs, and double packs. While Exile's output continued to incorporate elements of drum'n'bass, his sound became increasingly abstract, albeit without losing the frenetic energy of his earliest tracks. Starting in 2005 with Pro Agonist (Planet Mu), he settled into an album-oriented release schedule (though he still issued the occasional 12"); the exceptionally hyper and fragmented Tim Exile's Nuisance Gabbaret Lounge (Planet Mu, 2006) and vocals-heavy Listening Tree (Warp, 2009) followed. ~ Andy Kellman
