About Youth Group

Youth Group’s best-known song is a faithful cover of Alphaville’s synth-pop classic “Forever Young”. The earnest, bittersweet take reached No. 1 in the band’s home of Australia in 2006 and appeared in the beloved TV drama The O.C. as well as on their own Casino Twilight Dogs LP. Beyond that success, the Sydney-based rock group have long focused on creating original songs driven by evocative guitars and Toby Martin’s moody vocals. Formed in the late ’90s, Youth Group took cues from the introspective indie emo of early Death Cab for Cutie on their 2001 debut, Urban & Eastern, and its 2005 follow-up, Skeleton Jar. Later efforts such as 2009’s The Night Is Ours expanded their sound by incorporating prominent piano and complex arrangements, adding both delicate beauty and hints of aggression. After a hiatus during the early 2010s, Youth Group returned to the stage in 2015 and convened in the studio for 2019’s Australian Halloween.
