Brave, innovative and close to the edge

No matter what views you might hold on progressive rock music, this is one of the bravest and most idiosyncratic pieces of music I've ever heard. The music on the three original tracks is incredible, by turns challenging, melodic, rhythmic and sometimes totally unlike anything mainstream rock had heard before. I think Close To The Edge deserves a place as one of the best progressive rock albums ever made - and it should definitely be considered as a great rock album too.
