The Definitive Collection

A wonderfully definitive collection of one of the world's most under-rated yet unknockable pop bands. All the hits are included which thankfully means icy classics such as The Sun Always Shines on TV, Hunting High And Low, I've Been Losing You from the early days and Analogue and Foot of The Mountain from the later years. Unfortunately including hits means commercial fodder from the difficult era of record company pressure such as Touchy and You Are The One also find their place among an otherwise faultless collection. Making up for this is the inclusion of several album only tracks which would no doubt have threatened the upper echelons of the charts had Warner Bros had the courage to release them (Scoundrel Days, Swing of Things). Though sadly missing is the Bandstand from the final album.

The final single - Butterfly Butterfly sums up the band's internal struggles and last days poignantly without losing the trademark melody which pervades Waaktaar-Savoy and Furuholmens songwriting - songs which are delivered by one of pops finest voices in Morten Harket.

For a band which manipulated the power of the music video to it's full (Take on Me only hit the big time when accompanied by "that" video), it's great to see some wonderful clips appended to the album - from the ground-breaking, award winning debut to the beautifully landscaped Lifelines (which speeds through 4 seasons at a Norwegian fjord in a time it takes for Harket to win you over in one the band's best songs).

A near perfect summation of one of music's finest careers. One not for every fan of the band, but for every serious fan of pop music in general.

A great Collection!

This a great collection of songs that is a must for all A-ha fans & for those who loved most of their songs. Great nostalgia!

This is a collection I've been waiting for!

Thank you!

Pal Waaktaar and Magne Furuholmen, formerly of Bridges, formed a-ha in the early '80s. Morten Harket joined the duo, and they left for the now "legendary London flat" (so called because of its state of disrepair) to make it. By late 1983 they had achieved part of that goal by signing to WEA. "Take on Me" took three times to become a hit in the U.K., eventually hitting number two in November 1985. Going one better in the U.S. mainly due to the wide exposure of its stunning video on MTV, which fused...
