Brillo Pads

This man just doesn't know the first thing about making a bad album. Everything on here is concise and to the point (to look at most of the track durations, you'd think it was a punk album), it's overflowing with genuine sonic invention, ideas that most artists would string out for 5 minutes are ruthlessly guillotined to make room for the next great track. On top of the outstanding production, there's the rapping - Roots has always been a cut above, he has a way with the english language that is relentlessly inventive, witty and positive; he's never had to stoop to trash talking invective, self congratulating onanism, chauvanism or tedious materialism to find his hooks - you just don't need it when you've got a superabundance of charm and wit. As much recognition as he has gotten (and continues to get), it's still just a fraction of the veneration he deserves.
