Cork Safety Alerts presence has been a beacon of information and awareness in recent extreme weather, establishing its importance in the Cork city community.

The Cork Safety Alerts App marks a step forward in mobile information access including live alerts, direct from the Cork Safety Alerts team displayed in a centralised feed within the mobile application.

Each alert is identified by a dynamic icon to easily distinguish between the types of alerts. The custom feed options are filtered by location to ensure that users never miss an alert for their specified area.

Locations available for filtering are listed on our website.

Once the Cork Safety Alerts team receives confirmation that a situation is resolved, the alert will be marked as all clear within the app by changing the dynamic icon to a green check mark.

There are two pricing tiers for the Cork Safety Alerts App, including access to the basic app for free.

All levels include ‘Missing Person’ and ‘Weather Warning’ alerts which will be sent as push notifications to all users by default.

Free by Default:

・With safety as the utmost importance, the team believes in keeping the app free, with the option of upgrading to premium.

・Free users will have access to the live feed, alert archiving, and ability to submit alerts to the Cork Safety Alerts team.

・The free plan includes adverts.

Premium Subscription:
・1 Month, recurring.
・1 Year, recurring.

・Access to all free features, but also the ‘My Locations’ page, which gives you access to a custom feed set using filter tags.
・Personalised push notifications based on filter preferences set within the ‘My Locations’ area.
・Adverts removed.

When upgrading to a Premium Subscription, payment will be charged to your iTunes Store account, at the end of your free trial period. This subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

Subscriptions are managed by you, and auto-renewal may be turned off at any time by heading to your iTunes Store account settings after purchase.

Any unused portion of your free trial period will be forfeited if you purchase a subscription.

Prices are listed within the app, and may vary depending on your country and currency.

About Cork Safety Alerts:

Cork Safety Alerts, a landmark volunteer-led provider of local updates, announced recently the launch of “Cork Safety Alerts” – a new, mobile application for personal safety and incident awareness in Cork city and its environs.

Since its creation in 2013, Cork Safety Alerts has evolved into destination Facebook page and Twitter accounts for area citizens seeking up-to-the-minute safety and incident updates.

The Cork Safety Alerts team developed the app in response to growing demand for a neighbourhood-specific safety alert option.

What’s New

Version 1.0.12

We’re always working on making sure the app is up to date, and working to its full potential. We squash pesky bugs that cause issues with the system as soon as we see them. We’re also making some backend changes to ensure the app runs smoothly.

In this update we’ve fixed:

• Removed ad consent changes for Premium Users since it’s not required. No adverts are shown to premium users.
• Backend changes for how subscriptions are managed, and how location filters are stored and removed

Reads like a twitter feed...

This team do great work to keep Cork moving. While the app is nicely designed I’m really not sure the reasoning and expense of producing an app that’s a glorified twitter feed? Also disappointing is the subscription charges which are pricey, considering the information is available on Facebook and Twitter already, even AA covers a lot of the areas. The main reason people would download is to customise for their area but as this is pay for service then the free social media platforms will provide same service and save 116mb of phone space. None the less best of luck and thanks to the team that maintain the updates voluntarily.

The app concept was initially developed on the backing of multiple users suggesting that we should have a medium where our alerts can be seen to those who don't use social media.

"Reads like a twitter feed..." - We agree, because this is what we were going for in the design. Simple, easy to read updates taken from our social media platforms. All alerts issued on the app, are taken from our Facebook posts - our database then reads, deciphers and posts the alert to the app (stripping any irrelevant information, and adding dynamic icons.)

We made a decision due to the increasing costs of maintaining our website, server, domain names and to complete the development of the mobile application (and to allow us to develop the app for other platforms) that we would introduce a subscription service to allow users to filter locations.

Cork Safety Alerts is self funded, and we receive no funding from any outside sources. Missing Person, Weather Warnings and other important information will be pushed to all users, regardless of their subscription status.

Cork Safety Alerts will remain free, always, and the subscription service only applies to the custom 'My Locations' feed on our app, and the ability to receive push notifications for filtered locations. There is no other application providing the ability to send filtered, push notifications for particular areas to users. This is where we feel that the subscription is justified.

We'll continue to provide alerts on Facebook, our website, and via the 'Feed' page on the mobile app free of charge.

We always had the idea that one day we could turn Cork Safety Alerts into a successful, local business, while maitaining the ethos we've always had and that is to keep Cork safe! Thank you for taking the time to write your review. - CSA.

Where have the practical apps been?

This is a very well thought-out and ergonomically presented app with no hidden agenda. It does what it sets out to do and is the most practical app I’ve seen in a very long time.
I only hope that similar platforms will be developed nationwide or that in the future CSA expands to incorporate Munster, Ireland, Europe... even the world!
Keep up the good work!

How did I live without this app before?

Brilliant App and a must need for every home screen. Just upgraded to the payed version and it’s well worth it. The push notifications ensure I never miss a traffic/ safety problem on my regularly travelled routes. Definitely something I’ll open up and use before going on my journeys etc.
Fab Idea!
