Buggy, requires a LOT of patience

RealStyli

iMovie is great for doing simple stuff. The effects, while you can't edit a lot of parameters, are pretty good. However, the current version is full of bugs (running on a late 2011 MBP with Mountain Lion) including one where if you gesture swipe from iMovie (full screen) to your desktop, you can't swipe back. Force quitting and restarting seems to be the only thing you can do in that case.

Other small bugs such as effect layer durations not displaying properly, projects not saving correctly or the fiddly nature of the program make it quite frustrating at times. That why I say that it requires a lot of patience. Especially as it can crash unexpectedly quite often.

If you're only making videos every now and then, iMovie is fine. If you want to work on video on a daily basis, you're better off looking for something more professional.

Improved video quality

JoFashion

At last iMovie has solved the ‘posterisation’ (or colour banding) problem that so upset its users. It now exports as .mp4 and not the old .mov, which may have had something to do with the transcoding problem in the first place. Now its a cheap video editing system with great quality results. Very pleased!!!!

Disapointed

Ok Apple what is that? new version of imovie that does not support older projects? i had 1 5min project in imovie 9 and it took half an hour to convert it to imovie 10… and i had to do it manually or else nothing. And now what i have to manualy delete older versions and projects? not good at all…
