Dr R Mohr

How refreshing it is to find a literacy app that clearly stems from experience in the classroom, that serves tried and true methods of teaching and pedagogy, rather than that simply follows the over-enthusiastic promises of tech designers who offer gaming treats sometimes for their own sake. Teachers will be delighted to find one of their own behind the mobile device. This app dovetails with classroom and textbook instruction as a support tool for those struggling with the language of the subject, Parts of Plants. It introduces the topic with a statement containing embedded keywords and then runs useful vocabulary and pronunciation exercises. This is followed by spelling and sentence word order activities to increase understanding and syntax. Then it challenges students with more developed exercises in multi-choice questions and gap fill exercises. Through this classic progression, students gain control of the topic’s vocabulary so they participate better in the classroom and read their textbooks with more confidence. It’s a terrific leg up for those struggling with the language of this science topic.
