Though they’re led by a handful of Elephant 6 veterans, the horn drenched blasts of noise and celebratory boogie churned out by this Athens, Georgia based psych rock collective bears little resemblance to the baroque pop of Elephant 6 acts like The Neutral Milk Hotel. Instead the dirty squalor of Dark Meat’s 2006 release, UNIVERSAL INDIAN, recalls the shambolic roots rock of Dr. John’s late ‘60s masterpiece, THE NIGHT TRIPPER. Dark Meat were signed to Vice records in the summer of 2008.
