Dilatazione

About Dilatazione

Formed in an industrial part of Tuscany, Dilatazione (Dilatation) are one of the more well-known post-rock bands from Italy. Brothers Alessio and Patrizio Gioffredi joined forces with Alessio Pepi in their hometown, Prato, in 1999. The trio spent the following three years performing in Italy and making demos with Italian-language songs, before Mirko Bertolucci of the band Muriel joined the group in 2002. From this point on, Dilatazione only performed instrumental songs, and their reputation grew in Italy, where they performed over 100 shows in a couple of years. Dilatazione recorded their debut album, Too Emotional for Maths, in Bologna during September 2005 and invited some friends to participate in the recording. The album features mainly instrumental songs, though two songs feature French-language vocals from Amaury Cambuzat (Cambuzat also produced Too Emotional for Maths). The album was released in 2007 by the fast-growing digital Australian label Hidden Shoal Recordings. Around this time, Alessio Gioffredi, while remaining a Dilatazione member, joined Cambuzat's band Ulan Bator. ~ Carsten Holm
