About Lorien

Multi-national indie rock band formed in February 1998 by London College of Music students Fabio Ciarcelluti (b. Italy; vocals/guitar), Einar Tonsberg (b. 6 February 1973, Reykjavík, Iceland; guitar) and Carlo Polli (b. Weston-Super-Mare, Avon, England; drums). The London-based trio took their name from the enchanted forest in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Lord Of The Rings, a suitable inspiration for their swirling, atmospheric music. After playing only a handful of live shows they were approached by the legendary UK manager Stevo, and soon afterwards signed a recording contract with the Instant Karma label. Their debut single, ‘Shivering Sun’, was released in October 2001, earning the band strong support from a UK music press enraptured by their melancholic indie rock sound. The following year’s Under The Waves was produced by Manic Street Preachers associate Mike Hedges, but despite high praise in the press the expected commercial breakthrough did not appear. The band sundered not long afterwards, with Tonsberg going on to release solo material as Eberg.
