Singer and voice actor Maaya Sakamoto’s breakthrough role came at age 16, starring as Hitomi Kanzaki in the TV anime series Vision of Escaflowne, a role she later reprised in the movie adaptation. ∙ Sakamoto is featured as the voice of Padmé Amidala in the Japanese dub versions of Star Wars: Episode I, II, and III. ∙ She starred as Princess Elise in Sonic the Hedgehog, a 2006 video game produced in commemoration of the Sonic series’ 15th anniversary. ∙ In 2003, Sakamoto made her stage debut, playing the role of Éponine in the Japanese version of the musical Les Misérables. ∙ As a pop singer, Sakamoto has released 10 studio albums, including the chart-topping You Can’t Catch Me. ∙ She voiced Lea Michele’s character Rachel Berry in the Japanese-dubbed version of Glee.
