An adaptation based on a novel by Christopher Isherwood, A SINGLE MAN is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life. Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, A SINGLE MAN, tells the story of a British college professor (Colin Firth) who dwells on the past and cannot see his future. We follow him through a single day, where a series of events and encounters, ultimately leads him to decide if there is a meaning to life after the death of his long time partner, Jim (Matthew Goode, Watchmen).
Stunning film.. Beautifully shot - reminds you of a Tom Ford commercial at times!
I loved this film, it really affected me. Colin Firth is outstanding in the lead role, but all of the other main actors are great too. Julianne Moore is really funny and endearing, and two young English actors play Americans impeccably. There is a beautiful and haunting soundtrack written by Abel Korzeniowski from Poland and Shigeru Umebayashi from Japan - it's actually quite difficult to tell who wrote what, as their styles blend seamlessly. An adapted excerpt from Bernard Herrmann's score for Vertigo blends in too. You wouldn't think it but this is the first film Tom Ford has directed. He has created a beautiful and touching film that looks great, has superb art direction and fashion, and is guaranteed to make you cry.
Elegant, Stylish and Moving. Firth is excellent, talking with his face. Julianne Moore's fantastic.
