Description

This is my retelling of the story of England, in a regular, chronological podcast, from the cataclysmic end of Roman Britain, all the way through to the present day. I’m a bloke in a shed, so this is not a dry retelling of events; I make sure this is good, properly prepared history, but I fill it with my love and enthusiasm, and some of the things that make me laugh. You’ll find the great events and people for sure – but also some of the byways, of how people lived, their language, and the forces that shaped their lives and destinies.

Customer Reviews

Keep it up Dave!

Don't know how I'm the first to review this, but it's fantastic. There is few podcasts that I can listen to in the morning and evening, but this is one of them. David's voice is easy to listen to, his info is easy to digest and anyone with even a remote interest in English history would be hard pressed to find a better, more comprehensive history. You're doing a brilliant job Dave, and have inspired me to think of doing my own podcast. Keep it up!

David Crowther History of England

I highly recommend this podcast on the history of "Engerland" by David Crowther. He basically takes every English monarch and delivers their history, gives some insights on life at the time, and does it all at an extreme coffee drinkers pace !!. The podcasts improve both i sound quality and Crowthers presenting style as you go further into the episodes. He has a great love of history and of his home country and this comes across from the start. Crowthers research is second to none. Its a good companion piece to Jamie Jeffers British History podcast also. Whether you are studying history or just curious about the England this is absolutely fantastic.

Malcolm’s Cousin

Seriously good!
David wears his knowledge lightly, has managed to deliver long and complex ideas/stories in easy listening terms (though occasionally I wish I’d taken notes!) As far as I can ascertain, he’s not only reliable, but fair handed and very up to date on his subject. The sound quality is great. The “amateur” status makes me feel part of the “History of England” Family… eaves dropping at the shed!
I love that when he fluffs he repeats like you would in real life rather than re recording. I know this is not comparing like with like, but he’s up there with Mike Duncan, History of Rome and The Ancient World. No complaints just a niggle, what’s this with pineapples??
