EDITORS’ NOTES

Over five years have passed since 2010’s Heligloand and remix-heavy Atlas Air EP. A few unsettling bleeps and portentous beats into Ritual Spirit’s opening track and it’s clear Massive Attack have returned tooled up with intent. This EP—written and produced by Robert “3D” del Naja and long-time collaborator Euan Dickinson—is pulsing with venom and underlines the band’s superlative talent for collaborator recruitment. Roots Manuva is a menacing presence on the apocalyptic hip-hop of “Dead Editors”, while Young Fathers are a mesmeric addition to “Vodoo In My Blood”’s urgent guitars.
