So you think you understand this thing you’re holding? Think again. Stop tapping. Stop swiping. In fact, stop touching the screen at all. To crack Blackbox’s puzzles you’ll need to find solitude and stillness, climb mountains, call on friends, get in tune with the cosmos, and think outside the box.
Minimalistic visual clues make for incredibly satisfying “Aha!” moments, while sonic interfaces provide an extra level of guidance and nuance that makes Blackbox accessible with or without vision. Thoughtful haptic feedback, Easter eggs on Easter eggs, and solutions that can’t be found beneath the glass of your screen redefine what a puzzle can be. This is a hotfix! iOS 17.4.1 broke some stuff, but I fixed it (hotly)
■ Fixed a certain double dark-teal challenge that was crashing on launch.

The most ingenious thing about Blackbox’s puzzles isn’t that you solve them without tapping or swiping. It’s that you’ll happily spend hours figuring out the game’s subtle clues. Do you need to tilt your iPhone, shout into the speaker or do something a lot trickier? Thinking creatively and finding the answer feels deeply rewarding, even profound—earning Blackbox an Apple Design Award.
Mobile puzzle game done right
This is how you do it. This is originality and creativity at its best. I wish every mobile game was on this level. I want to say so much but I have no words. Just download it. Seriously, just do it.
Requests outrageous permissions, half baked
Some kind of spyware masquerading as a half assed puzzle game. Premise: Do random, seemingly unrelated things on your phone to make things happen! (That’s not clever. There isn’t a riddle or brain teaser component to this. It’s like a bad escape room.)
Reason I’m bitter: in about 15 minutes of gameplay got bombarded with about 50 requests to share the screen (presumably on social media - presumably by giving it permissions in my accounts??) and give it microphone access. Gameplay after 4 puzzles completely blocked off until you do at least one of these actions (and both if you want to unlock all the puzzles). Basically- extremely aggressive marketing/requests for permissions it shouldn’t have. And you know full well there’s no reason for any riddle to be reliant on a microphone (see: idiot premise)
