Chinmaya Prakash ,

If you are looking for the best chess app, look no further!

I have tried quite a few chess related apps, but frankly this app has all others beat, hands down! The customisable game engine a.k.a. Computer mode is the best that any free app on the App Store offers right now. That alone is sufficient reason to try this app if you're looking to improve your game. There are tons of learning material, and a game analysis feature which makes this easily the best one out there. Subscription is a bit pricey though, without which the app restricts most of the useful features except for the Computer mode.

Edit: I am taking away one star for the latest update because of omission of a very crucial feature of computer mode which allowed you to switch sides. It really helped my game to understand how to play different openings and how to play against them. Now I am limited to whatever random opening the computer chooses to play.

Edit (second): thanks for listening! You get your star back.

Awesome

Me and my friends used to play BGMI much, but I used to have anxiety issues. Some how my friends stopped playing online games for various reasons. As a mobile game enthusiast, I cannot resist playing a game on mobile. And at the same time, my colleagues in my office used to play more politics. I’m a humble person who don’t know that people lie all the time and also the strategies they play for something even though I’m innocent and hard worker. So, I started playing chess a from various apps but this is very easy and have no bugs. I started to think how to overcome those politics in my office and yes, I’m peaceful now and would know how to place strategies in my real life and business. A part of the credit goes to this Chess app.

Arrows while analyzing??

Talk about not knowing your audience. A “feature” introduced while analyzing games was to show arrows for the computer lines. Most of us like to think more about a position before we look at what the computer lines suggests… these arrows are “spoilers”. At the least a setting could have been provided to disable them. Very poor UX design in general. In the ipad mini while analyzing, the move list comes at a place right below the arrows to navigate the game moves. So while pressing the next move arrow, it often is the case that the finger accidentally smudges over the move list - and suddenly the board transforms to the position at that move in the move list, which is often somewhere at the end of the game. Then you’d have to keep hitting prev to get gack to the place you were in. Very annoying this placement of controls without disregarding the ergonomics.

UPDATE: Sep-2022: Still no option to disable the analysis arrows. Still nav buttons are in the same place in the ipad mini - right below move list, accidental smudges to move list continue to happen.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for this feedback. We're currently work on improvements, including a setting to disable those arrows! Please write to us at support@chess.com for assistance. We're here to help!
