Heavy Notes App that sadly misses being great due to performance and stability
I have used Microsoft OneNote for a few years now and its one of the most comprehensive note apps in the world. I have probably over a hundred megabytes of data stored in it. (And mostly text notes at that!). Unfortunately, its become heavier and slower over the years as Microsoft kept adding features. They need to spend some time in removing cruft and making the product leaner.. Also, the last few updates have become rather unstable on the Mac. You copy-paste some information, the notes app crashes, you open up it up again to find that the note has disappeared and you pull out your hair in frustration. As a result, I am now using a 2 step process, where I first copy into Mac notes and then copy into OneNote. I really don’t want to continue doing this and hope they fix the stability problems. Frankly, I hope they make a "OneNote Lean" edition. I am fairly certain most folks don’t use 80% of OneNotes features and people would be happier with a ligher and faster product. Or at-least offer a version where you can turn off what you don’t use.
Very intuitive, great user experience
This is a great tool and a must-have for just about anybody. Becomes all the more indispensable when you consider that there is integration into browsers (as plugins) allowing for clipping content from just about anywhere. Very smooth, opens quick and does not get in the way at all. Not a huge memory hog from what ive gathered as well. Good user experience all through. The layout is simple and gets you started quickly and the buttons/toolbars choices is very logical and the features all seem sensibly implemented without going overboard. I wish it had a ruler option for those odd times when you want to be exact. Maybe a future version may have it as an opt-in option. Perhaps ive missed the feature if its already built in, but maybe some bare-basic resposniveness may also be useful. For example maybe i may want to have a picure or paragraph that ive positioned on my larger screen to fit across to do the same on the mobile version of the app as well.
A Substanital Thing For Microsoft To Improve On
I have used this app in the past and it has been great.
However, upon downloading the latest update on my new Mac, I am not able to sign in to my Microsoft Account through One Note and thus am not able to use the software at all. I wasted hours trying to figure this out, and it still doesn’t work.
Error: The authentication session has expired. Please sign-in again.
On my new Mac I use keychain for my other accounts, but not my MIcrosoft account. On the old one I never used keychain at all. Thus, I think the problem has something to do with this.
I have no idea how to proceed. I was really relying on One Note’s otherwise great usefulness to complete an assignment, but unfortunately have wasted too much time on this and not been able to proceed with the assignment.
If Microsoft wants to be better than Apple, it honestly needs to try much harder!
To Microsoft: “Pls roll out an update as soon as possible to tackle this problem and help all the users like me who are stuck with this useless version of One Note”
PS I already tried deleting the software and downloading it again. Turning off keychain and then trying to log in. Signing out of One Note and then signing in again. Signing in on the web browser, which was successful.
