Description

MumTrafficapp is a user-friendly application created for the citizens of Mumbai who may need assistance in matters related to traffic-regulation. This application also facilitates viewing and easy payment of traffic challans generated against their vehicle(s).

This application also helps citizens notify the police department about incidences of violations that take place on the roads thus enabling the department to take prompt and decisive action to keep the roads safe and secure.

While installing the app, a user must register himself/ herself using his/her mobile number. Following are the features of the app:

1. My Vehicles
A user can register a vehicle by its number to track e-challans issued against the said vehicle. For the same,

Click on the “Add Vehicle” button and enter the vehicle number.
Where a mobile number has been registered in the RTO's Vahan system against a particular vehicle, such a vehicle gets added to the “My Vehicles” list without additional validations. If such a mobile number does not exist in the RTO records, the system shall prompt the user to enter the last 4 digits of the vehicle's chassis/engine number for a maximum of 10 attempts.
A user may add multiple vehicles to the “My vehicles list” against a single mobile number to get notification(s) of future challans issued against each vehicle thus added.
Users can also delete vehicle details from the “My Vehicle” list where they do not wish to track challans on a vehicle anymore.

2. My E-Challans
A user can view all the e-challans issued against vehicles mentioned in the 'My E-Challans' list. For the same, the user needs to click on the vehicle number and then on the e-challan number.
In case users wish to pay compounding fees on the pending e-challan(s), a secured payment gateway is available to do so using Credit/ Debit cards.

3. Civilian Report
This app also allows citizens to report incidents of traffic-rule violations to the department. To facilitate the correct analysis of violation(s) by the department, a feature of attaching photographs as evidence has also been provided.

Besides incidences of traffic violation, incidents like accidents, constructions that violate laws, oil spills, breakdowns, water logging, tree fall, road rage etc. can also be reported.

Incidences of traffic violation including the likes of triple seat riding, riding without a helmet, driving without seat-belts on, parking/ stopping on stop line(s), speaking over the mobile phone while driving, wrong-side parking, fancy number plate etc., can also be reported.

4. E-Challan Payment

Citizens intending to pay the e-challans received shall be redirected to the e-challan payment portal where they would be required to enter the relevant vehicle numbers (with the last 4 digits of chassis/engine number) or challan number(s).

5. Information

Generic information including traffic alerts, traffic signals, compounding fees for each violation type, road safety information etc., can be viewed here.

Update very important to keep this app alive

software team has to update this app to ensure usability of this app.. with every i.o.s update, some or the other functionality of this app goes for a toss. by developing this app, government has done a good job but, maintaining it would do justice to the funds & efforts deployed in creating this app. not able to register a offence, not able to view current penalty rates, not able to view details of my challans, not able to view registration numbers in “my vehicles” section. it needs to be addressed at the earliest

Not a User friendly App

If you are trying to upload a violation, one cannot use the image gallery to upload it. One HAS to take the picture on the app it self. There are so many moments where one has to take a picture instantly, as there is no time to open the app and navigate to the option. The other features of the app are helpful, but citizen report feature is a big failure. By making the procedure complicated, It almost feels like they don’t want citizens to report the violations.

Reporting module for traffic violations is designed very poorly

I have tried reporting traffic/ parking violations multiple times wherein 3 people are riding on a bike or a car is parked incorrectly - however the camera module does not save any pictures and does not allow uploading pictures as well.
It’s as if it’s designed to not allow people to register complaints - one of the most non user friendly apps I have tried.
The Maharashtra police app is similar with same modules and same issues.
