There’s a salt-of-the-earth authenticity to Amit Trivedi’s soundtrack for Udaan. In a story inspired by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s upbringing, acoustic arrangements accent the drama before big rock sounds drive the emotional revelations home. This is best exemplified in “Kahaani (Aankhon Ke Pardon Pe)”, which features a ringing chorus set against softly strummed guitar, slowly building into an alt-rock behemoth. Contemporary folk-influenced track “Naav (Chadhti Lehrein Laang Na Paye)” marries sitar and electric guitar with classical Indian vocal elements, delivering another album standout.
