Jasmine Records continues its admirable series of reissues from the Dinning Sisters, this time focusing on their early-'50s country-flavored recordings. Although they're best known for their Andrews Sisters-styled harmony vocal recordings, the Dinnings also worked with session guitarist George Barnes on a series of studio recordings "in a country style." While these don't have the winking swagger of their more vocal jazz-oriented recordings, the appeal of these cowboy ballads and folk songs is undeniable. The opening gospel number, "Turn Your Radio On," stands out as a highlight, as do the sweet and lonesome "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie" and "Till We Meet Again." This collection does have a few unfortunate moments (the dated novelty of "Let's Draw Straws" and the weird "Steppin Fetchit" fake accents in "Louisiana Hayride"), but these are heavily outweighed by the sunny charm of the rest of the album.
