Note dalla redazione - iTunes

Essential Rarities was originally released as part of several box sets The Doors issued posthumously. Taken alone, it's a companion piece to their six studio albums, featuring demos, live cuts, outtakes, and the excellent b-side "Who Scared You" all in one place. Fact is, The Doors had few studio outtakes. With singer Jim Morrison, the group used nearly every idea for the official albums that came fast and furious, all six within the five-year span of 1967 to 1971. "Hello to the Cities" is a bizarre pastiche of salutations from Morrison onstage in various venues. However, the version of "Break on Through (To the Other Side)" from the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 is one of the band's best recordings. Along with the live "Roadhouse Blues," it makes for among the band's best concert highlights. The "Moonlight Drive" demo from 1965 shows The Doors surprisingly close to their eventual identity; only the harmonica solo seems out of place. Morrison's vocals are already assured. Whether these are essential depends on your level of interest, but there are some excellent tracks here.
