Twelfth Night bears Shakespeare’s own alternative title “What You Will” and that is certainly an apt description for a play that seems to be all things to all people: a raucous comedy featuring some of the Bard’s most unforgettable characters; a story of love triumphant; a proving look at sexual psychology; a social satire. Twelfth Night is all these things, but mostly it’s just plain fun, a play as lively and entertaining for today’s audiences as it was for the Elizabethans four centuries ago. David Parfitt and Stephen Evans, the hot producing team behind The Madness of King George and Much Ado About Nothing, present a new film adaptation of Twelfth Night that promises to be the Rolls Royce of all Shakespeare movies. Trevor Nunn, the lion of the English theatre, directs, drawing upon his incomparable prestige and experience on the West End stages (Les Miserables). Nunn has put together a production featuring the cream of British acting talent, including such luminaries as Nigel Hawthorne.
