Description

The Penn Program on Documentaries & the Law supports the production of videos on social justice issues, made on behalf of actual clients, by Penn Law students who take on the roles of producers, directors, cinematographers, or editors. The subjects of their videos range from petitions for clemency to contemporary issues regarding asylum and immigration law to the continuing impact of a historic civil rights heroine. The students, most of whom are enrolled in the Visual Legal Advocacy Seminar, learn to grapple not only with the challenges of making an argument using visual images and sound, but also with the lawyering issues of copyright compliance, consent, and invasion of privacy that confront every nonfiction filmmaker.
