Description

The development of early American animation is represented by this collection of animated films, which spans the years 1900 to 1921. The films include clay, puppet, and cut-out animation, as well as pen drawings. They point to a connection between newspaper comic strips and early animated films, as represented by Keeping Up With the Joneses, Krazy Kat, and The Katzenjammer Kids. As well as showing the development of animation, these films also reveal the social attitudes of early twentieth-century America.

Treasure!

These are truly a national treasure, not just this collection but all of these early films. Thanks for making them so easily accessible!

First review!

The silent era of animation is not as talked about compared to the golden age of the 30s-60s. It's a shame as there were some great creative cartoons that helped structure animation as we know it now. There are some title mix ups and print much too small too read but it's still great they're releasing these lost treasures. They may not be the best cartoons of all time but it's worth exploring for fans of classic cartoons. Espeicially humerous phases...,the earliest known cartoon (mistakinly put under womens styles here).

Amazing

Love those classic animations
